I never know what to buy my wife as an anniversary gift because we haven’t been together long enough for the symbolic gift to be of any value to her yet! Unless it’s diamonds or rubies, you might as well just buy your partner something that they like, but I always struggle to hit the right note romantically.

This year I am going all out to impress. The full works, or at least I hope. I am planning to prepare absolutely everything she needs for a night away with me. I am booking a beautiful looking hotel for the two of us with a fantastic view overlooking the Cornish coast. I have arranged for a limousine to take us there, and I have bought her new shoes, a new dress, and new underwear for her to dress for the occasion. On top of this I have decided to buy her a bottle of perfume for her to wear on the night. It’s a special night so obviously I need to get her something a bit out of the ordinary, but unfortunately I don’t know the first thing about perfume!

Luckily I came across a great site which sold cheap perfume. The site was fantastic and it had all of the designer brands at really low prices. She really helped me choose a great perfume, and I have to say that it was the one thing that really made the night for my wife – she was thrilled with everything, but she absolutely loved the perfume!

My girlfriend and I are not the most materialistic people in the world, and we are happy to have each other most of the time. Birthday’s and Christmas celebrations for us are all about seeing the people we love, rather than finding the right present for each other. Of course, we always buy each other something, but it is always the thought that counts, rather than the cost. Neither of us earns as fortune and we have become used to a life of simple pleasures.

This year though, I just got the sense that my girlfriend was a bit sick of not having any money. It was her birthday coming up and I thought that it was a great opportunity to spoil her a little bit. I put in a few extra hours at work over the course of a few weeks so I would be able to afford the things I wanted to do.

On the day of her birthday I explained to her that I wanted to give her a really unforgettable day, and I told her that in an hour there would be a taxi waiting for us. She was so excited she could not stop smiling!

We headed out for a very nice lunch, and took a romantic stroll in the countryside afterwards. When we returned home she was greeted at the door by a dozen red roses and the look on her face said it all. She was thrilled to have been treated like a princess, if only for one day.
